Two Collier County sheriff’s deputies were ordered to go through remedial Taser training last month after accidentally deploying their Tasers inside their homes, recently released internal investigations revealed.

On Oct. 13, Cpl. Yushika Florence was testing her agency-issued Taser at home, but forgot to remove the air cartridge that fires the Taser’s two probes. When Florence pulled the trigger she shot the probes into her carpet, the investigation revealed.

Ten days later, around 6:45 a.m., Cpl. Walter Solomon was also testing his Taser at home. He too failed to remove the air cartridge, an investigation revealed.

When Solomon pulled the trigger he shot the probes into his bedroom wall.

No one was injured in either case, reports said, and in both cases the deputies informed their supervisor about the accidental Taser deployment. It is not against Sheriff’s Office policy for deputies to test their Tasers at home, spokeswoman Jamie Mosbach said.

In late November both Florence and Solomon had charges of inattention to duty sustained, received a letter of counseling and were ordered to go through remedial Taser training, reports show. Both deputies have already gone through the training, Mosbach said.
